General Description: The Wilmot Dam creates Lake Gardiner. Water from Lake Gardiner travels via a pipeline to Lake Cethana, hence the river only flows well when the dam is spilling or after heavy rain. This is a very long day with difficult rapids approaching grade 5. The terrain is steep making walkouts difficult. Suitable for experienced, well equipped competent paddlers only.
The bottom of this section is grade 2-3 and is over grown by tea tree and is notoriously slow unless the river is up. The river has pools between most of the rapids. It is a river not creek, with a wide river bed and capacity for big flows.
