General Description: Shortly after the start the river enters a small gorge which is pleasant grade 2. The river splits in two further on. The right is a fast shoot which empties into a basin with a 1.5 m fall which should be scouted. The left is shingle rapids and this route is willow choked. The scenery is pleasant and there are many grade 2-3 rapids before the most exciting rapid on the trip. A portage of the first fall may be necessary if the water is low and if there is enough water it may be a good grade 4, the total drop being about 6 m The rapids continue being enjoyable until another grade 3 which may be unpaddleable if there is insufficient water. The rapid consists of a 2 m drop in two stages very close together. The remainder of the river is grade 2 shingle rapids, and 2.5 km of flat water and willows to the Binnalong Bay Road Bridge at George’s Bay. |
